Portrait of Giovanni Arnolfini and his Wife. Painted by Jan Van Eyck in 1434.
Eyck’s work fascinates me. This one in a scary way. Arnolfini looks almost non-human and weird. But I find the details in the picture stunning. Especially how the lights hit the chandelier and how the mirror reflects both the couple - and the artist himself.
The words “Jan Van Eyck was here” is written on the wall above the mirror.
